Adventures in LA and Temecula

The view at one of the Temecula Valley Wineries that we stopped at on our "Moms Away" Weekend. We had gorgeous weather, if a bit hot at 100 degrees. Soren tagged along with us since he is still dependent on his "cow" and won't let me out of his sites for that long. He is also teething and was a bit fussy for him but some baby advil helped him cope.
Check out those pretty clouds! My camera wasn't handy when we saw two guys riding their horses up this road to taste some of the local wine. Temecula is about 60 miles to the southeast of San Clemente and has really been cultivating a thriving wine reputation. We took advantage of a girlfriends get-away package at the Temecula Creek Inn and spent two days and one night away from home. No cooking, no cleaning, just doing what we moms wanted to do! (well except for Soren's milk breaks and diaper changes). What a treat!
Kathleen and I enjoying our time off.
Soren and Jared reading a book on the humor of Soren Kierkegaard. Notice how neither one of them are laughing. Perhaps something is lost in the translation from Danish. Jared did give it the old college try and plowed through the entire book (except the 43-page introduction by the editor).
Now doing something that they enjoy more, just hanging out in the hammock.
Festive clothing at a shop on Olvera street in Los Angeles. Last Friday we made the train trip up there again, but this time went with 3 other moms and 8 kids total. After Olvera street we headed to Chinatown.
It was HOT in Los Angeles. Here are the kids kicking back in a bit of shade in Chinatown with their new hats. Notice how Einar is the only one wearing his floppy hat under the field hat. I ended up wearing the field hat the rest of the day--extremely effective at keeping the sun off and my head cool. I might just try to make it a fashion statement at the park next time I go!
Einar is a trooper on our adventure days. He carries his own backpack with his water, burpee, extra shorts and underwear, and a little snack and sometimes a stuffed animal friend. On this trip I should have packed him an extra pair of shoes too since the sandals he was wearing caused blisters on his feet and I had to pick him up this fancy pair of sneakers in Chinatown so that he would continue walking.
